The Emerald Necklace Conservancy offers a variety of educational programming for all ages, providing combined nearly 3,000 environmental education, nature connection and environmental career exploration engagements for Boston Public Schools students to date. Canopy Classroom is a 2-hour school day field trip program designed for 3rd & 4th grade students, implemented in Olmsted Park. In the fall, students will learn about the tree life cycle and signs of fall in the forest. In the spring, students will explore the world of predators, prey and adaptations.
Natural Ways is a nature-based summer camp for youth aged 10-13. The Conservancy partners with local Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs to provide a safe space for youth to explore and learn outdoors. 2024 is the second year of this 3-year pilot program.
Green Team is a part-time summer employment opportunity for Boston youth aged 14-18, presented in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. Crew Members will contribute to park maintenance, learn about green careers, connect with nature during adventure days, and participate in professional development.
Adult & Family education events take place in the parks on weekends from April through September. Examples include forest bathing, ponding, live wildlife demonstrations and more!
