Natural Ways

Natural Ways is a cost-free, interactive, inquiry-based summer experience in environmental education and nature connection that is facilitated from July to August. The experience connects Boston’s youth to scientific concepts—and the benefits of spending time in nature—in a fun and hands-on manner.

It is proven that spending time in nature guides youth to become more environmentally conscious. Natural Ways is free to program partners, and includes transportation to and from the parks. Interested community organizations should contact Director of Education Kent Jackson at kjackson@emeraldnecklace.org with any questions or to discuss a partnership.

Testimonials

“This program exposed our youth members to new things. I believe they have never experienced things like this before. When we first arrived, they complained about coming. Once they explored the woods and saw animals, birds, toads, and tadpoles, they began to enjoy themselves. They really enjoyed skipping rocks and exploring the stream. They were surprised to learn that they can come here on their own. I never knew this place existed myself. I am so happy I was chosen to come with them today. It was peaceful and I learned a lot. I am coming back after work on my own to spend time here.”

“I had a fun time this week. I learned how to fish, I learned about plants you can use as medicine, and explored a stream. I feel a little more comfortable spending time in nature and want to come back and go fishing with my brother.”
