Dadabex: Conservation, Connection and Hybridity

October 13, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Dadabex: Conservation, Connection and Hybridity evolves from an ongoing collaboration with the Institute of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Zurich. Neo-dada performance art invites audiences to learn from the story of Alpine ibex, nearly hunted to extinction in the 19th century.

Drawing inspiration from Nakaya’s sculptures, imagery simultaneously celebrates the natural world and conservation efforts, while communicating a cautionary tale of over-consumption. Costumed performers reverberate with folkloric and allegorical associations. Gathering energy from Dada antecedents at the Cabaret Voltaire, these events explore chanting, ritual movement, dance and audience participation. Dadabx seeeks to birth new awareness of the impacts of consumption on the natural world.

Presentation of this program is made possible with generous support from Barbara and Amos Hostetter, Eugene M. Lang Foundation and an anonymous donor.
