Step into the heart of Boston’s Black history as we journey through Lower Roxbury and the South End—exploring what happened once upon a time in Nubian Square.
Led by the Afrimerican Academy & Live Like a Local Tours Boston, this walking tour traces the evolution of Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square), once a thriving hub of music, business, and community life. We’ll uncover stories of cultural brilliance, urban renewal, and the resilience that continues to define Roxbury today.
From jazz clubs to trolley lines, and from the elevated Orange Line to the historic Boston Neck, each stop tells a story of a neighborhood that helped shape Boston’s identity.

Boston Redline 88 (BRL88) is a month-long cultural campaign produced by the Afrimerican Academy celebrating 88 years since the 1938 redlining map of Boston. Through film, tours, and dialogue, BRL88 reclaims space, challenges inequity, and nurtures the vision of Rev. Dr. King’s Beloved Community.
