Hear the story of how Frederick Law Olmsted transformed an area of polluted waterways and mudflats into a scenic fens and the later 20th century revisions that resulted in the landscape we see today.
Photography has been a tool used to comprehend landscapes since the earliest photographic experiments in the 19th century. Since that time, photography has evolved to the point where photographing is ubiquitous with experiencing. Smartphones make this act accesible to the entire population, but digital images tend to stay in digital form, limiting their long term impact. By making smartphone images into physical darkroom prints, visitors will be encouraged to create memories of Nakaya's works, as well as ponder the power of image making.
