Volunteer Opportunities

The Conservancy's "Volunteers for the Necklace" program is supported by a generous grant from the Cabot Family Charitable Trust. Our program organizes area residents and visitors to participate directly in clean-ups, landscape improvement and community plantings within the 1,000 acres of the historic Emerald Necklace park system.

Woodlands Volunteer Corps:

Spring - Fall, First Saturday of each month from 10:00am - 1:00pm

You told us that you are interested in preserving the woodlands in Olmsted Park, and many of you have previously helped on volunteer days over the last few years. Thank you very much for everything you’ve already done to improve the health of the woodlands, for future generations of park visitors to enjoy! Because of you, we have made great strides…

  • fighting back the invasive plants that are threatening to take over;

  • adding soil nutrients, and limestone to raise the soil pH to the range preferred by mixed oak forests;

  • starting to plant asters and ferns on the forest floor.

We hope you will join us for some of the volunteer events we are planning for 2010. We will now be scheduling volunteer days on the SECOND Saturdays of each month from now till next autumn.

Rain dates for all events are the following Saturday, unless otherwise noted. All tasks are tentative and may change depending on what's most needed in the woods.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Don Eunson at volunteers@emeraldnecklace.org, (617) 522-2700, or fill out our Volunteer Sign-up Form.
