Join Zoo New England staff and a representative from Wildlife Acoustics Inc. for an observation walk focused on bats around Scarboro Pond in Franklin Park. Participants will learn to spot and identify bats native to the area. Participants will also have the opportunity to use the Zoo’s new Echo Meter Touch, an iPhone/iPad-powered bat detector from Maynard, Mass.-based Wildlife Acoustics Inc. The tool helps to identify detected species based on the bats’ echolocation calls. This is the perfect opportunity to speak with the Zoo’s staff and learn more about the conservation issues facing bats, as well as the important role these creatures play in healthy ecosystems.
- Participants should come prepared for the walk and should dress accordingly. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Please be sure to bring a flashlight.
