SUMMARY:2021 Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn about the Conservancy’s tree care program and why a healthy urban tree canopy is essential to our city. \nConservancy President Karen Mauney-Brodek will share an update about our work over this past year. We’ll dive a bit deeper into our tree and landscape work with Erica Holm\, the Conservancy’s Field Operations Coordinator. Erica will explain the work we’ve completed so far during the first seven-year tree pruning cycle of our Tree Inventory\, Assessment and Management Plan\, and where we hope to go in the future. \nDr. Jim Clark\, the Managing Consulting Arborist for Hort Science | Bartlett Consulting and an internationally renowned arborist\, will join us to speak about how this kind of tree care is beneficial for the long-term health of the tree canopy\, for the humans interacting with it and for the environment. \nTo close out the event\, we will be joined by an expert panel to discuss the importance of a healthy tree canopy from the perspective of the tree canopy and the nearby environment\, direct human interaction in an urban environment and the broader public health impacts a tree canopy (or lack thereof) can have on the surrounding community.

SUMMARY:Hidden Gems: Revival of the Muddy River within the Emerald Necklace
DESCRIPTION:Event hosted by Park Watershed \nThe story of the Emerald Necklace\, (aka Muddy River riparian corridor) reveals how landscapes along urban waterways provide essential ecosystem connectivity. The Emerald Necklace Conservancy fulfills the aspirations of Hartford native\, Frederick Law Olmsted by hosting a spectrum of activities along the irregular path of the Muddy River. Revitalization of Boston’s Emerald Necklace is rooted in ambitious conservation goals of the late 19th and early 20th century. The impressive\, historic scale of conservation can inspire communities to respond to the climate crisis with a new\, 21st century parks movement. \nThis event will review the history of the Muddy River within the Emerald Necklace with guest Karen Mauney-Brodek of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy\, and will summarize the efforts of the Olmsted 200 movement with guest Barbara A. Yaeger of the National Association of Olmsted Parks. \n\n \nRegistrants for this event agree to receive communications from Emerald Necklace Conservancy and Park Watershed\, with the option to unsubscribe at any time.
