SUMMARY:Mayor’s Cup Cross Country
DESCRIPTION:The Boston Parks and Recreation Department\, in partnership with USATF New England\, invites runners of all ages to take part in the 35th annual Mayor’s Cup Cross Country Tournament at Franklin Park. The event will be held on Sunday\, October 26\, 2025\, continuing a proud tradition of competitive and community cross country racing in Boston’s largest green space. \n\n\nFounded in 1990 by legendary Boston coach Bill Squires to bring open cross country racing back to Franklin Park\, the inaugural Mayor’s Cup began with just nine entrants. Today\, the event draws nearly 1\,000 participants each year\, ranging from youth runners to international-caliber athletes. Each race takes on Franklin Park’s iconic Bear Cage Hill. \nThis year’s Mayor’s Cup features a full slate of races\, including: \n\nYouth races (8U\, 9-10\, 11-12\, 13-14)\nFranklin Park 5K All-Comers Women\nFranklin Park 5K All-Comers Men\n\nThe youth races will include medals to the top 3 individuals in each division and medals to the 3 scoring members of the top 3 teams in each race (Team scoring will combine 8/U and 9-10 in one race).  The Franklin Park 5K All Comers will feature age divisions (15–18\, 19–39\, 40-49\, 50-59\, 60-69\, 70+). The overall race winners earning the Mayor’s Cup award and the top teams winning the Bill Squires Cup. \nPre-registration is required for all races.

DESCRIPTION:Runners and walkers come primarily from the neighborhoods that border the park\, including Roxbury\, Dorchester\, Jamaica Plain\, and Mattapan\, but all are welcome\, including out-of-town family members! The Franklin Park Turkey Trot is the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the City of Boston. DESCRIPTION:Join the debut of the JP Holiday Light Show and the South Street Illumination on Thursday\, December 4\, 2025\, at 5:00pm. They will start with the debut of a laser projection show onto the steeple of First Baptist Church\, then follow JP Honk down the street to the South Street Mall & Courts to see the animated curtain of lights along the fence. \nHot cocoa and light refreshments will be served. Festive holiday cheer will be on the menu too! Free and open to all. \nThe JP Holiday Light Show and South Street Illumination will continue every night until January 3\, 2026. \nThe projection show is bilingual! Shows in English at 5:00\, 5:30\, 6:00\, 6:30\, 7\, 7:30\, 8\, 8:30pm. Shows in Spanish at 5:15\, 5:45\, 6:15\, 6:45\, 7:15\, 7:45\, 8:15\, 8:45pm. The show plays every night from Dec 4 to Jan 3. Bring your mobile device to listen to the sound along with the show. See the animation\, “Twas the Night Before Solstice\,” with that famous albino squirrel\, and a slideshow of drawings by children in the community!
