Waking Up the Rose Garden

Spring 2010

More than a dozen volunteers donned work gloves to ready the garden for the 2010 season. With expert training and guidance from rosarian Kit Ganshaw of the Arnold Arboretum, volunteers planted 36 roses, including the AARS winner, 'Cinco de Mayo,' and the historic rose 'Talisman,' to name a few. Participants also learned how to plant both bare root and potted roses, and about the differences between planting grafted roses and roses on their own stock. Volunteers finished the day by clearing out the surrounding yew hedge of litter and debris, and found a nice vintage-looking baseball wedged among the branches! Thanks to all who helped wake up the garden and to Kit, for so generously sharing her time and expertise with us.

A special thank you to Star Roses for donating 20 roses and to the following rose nurseries for giving us a generous discount on our purchases!

Russell’s | Antique Rose Emporium | Rogue Valley Roses
