Summer on the Necklace

Dappled sunlight through green leaves. Walking home from work on a warm afternoon. Music carried on the breeze. It’s time for Summer on the Necklacethe Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s annual celebration of the season and the joy that it brings.

This summer, we encourage you to explore, create, and find peace in the Emerald Necklace’s extraordinary landscapes through walks, music, art, and more. Visit our events calendar and check out our highlighted events below to discover how you can make this Summer on the Necklace one to remember.

Summer-Long Activities

  • Journey the Necklace
    May 15 – September 30 | Throughout the Emerald Necklace
    Journey the Necklace with 8 specially curated and educational routes created by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy. Designed for all ages and abilities, Journey the Necklace is flexible, welcoming, and full of opportunities to enjoy nature, stay active, and be part of a shared community experience. Visitors who complete routes in six of the Emerald Necklace parks can earn a special souvenir!
  • Studios Without Walls Presents: Urban Symphony
    May 30 – September 7 | Riverway
    Studios Without Walls presents its 27th Annual exhibition of site-responsive, local sculpture along the Riverway. Self-guided tours and an art treasure hunt are available!
  • Tuesdays with Roses
    June – September | Kelleher Rose Garden
    Tuesdays with Roses returns this summer. Each Tuesday between June and September, volunteers can work in the Kelleher Rose Garden: deadheading and pruning roses, weeding rose beds, and weeding borders. Training and tools are provided.

  • Brookline SpringFest
    Saturday, May 30 | 11am-2pm | Allerton Overlook, Olmsted Park
    The Town of Brookline’s fifth-annual Spring Fest is a call for environmental action and we urge you to join us as we “Spring into Climate Action.” Learn about the exciting community work that’s being done by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, and many others! The event will include environmental education activities, yard games, crafting stations, a tree ID walk, refreshments, and music.
  • Studios Without Walls Opening Reception
    Saturday, May 30 | 2pm-4pm | Riverway
    Join Studios Without Walls at the opening reception of their 27th Annual exhibition of site-responsive local sculpture in the Riverway. Refreshments, music, and dancing will be provided!

June

  • Second Saturdays: Volunteer Stewardship in the Back Bay Fens
    Saturday, June 13 | 10am-12pm | Shattuck Visitor Center
    Join the Emerald Necklace Conservancy for our monthly volunteer opportunity. Volunteers assist with a variety of hands-on tasks, including litter cleanups, invasive plant removal, plantings, and other ecological restoration efforts.
  • Birds of Prey Live! Morning Presentation
    Sunday, June 14 | 10:30am-12pm | James Michael Curley House
    Come see North American birds of prey live and in-person, including a red-tailed hawk, peregrine falcon, owls and more! All birds will be handled by Wingmasters’ licensed raptor rehabilitators.
  • Birds of Prey Live! Afternoon Presentation (with ASL Interpretation)
    Sunday, June 14 | 12:30pm-2pm | James Michael Curley House
    Come see North American birds of prey live and in-person, including a red-tailed hawk, peregrine falcon, owls and more! All birds will be handled by Wingmasters’ licensed raptor rehabilitators. The afternoon presentation will include American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.

    • Fenway Porchfest
      Saturday, June 19 | 12pm-4pm | Fenway Neighborhood
      “Music Everywhere, Porches Optional” is the motto of Fenway Porchfest, which returns to the Fenway neighborhood with music and activities this June. Stop by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s Shattuck Visitor Center for a restroom break and to learn about the parks!
    • Momentum
      June 24-28 | Franklin Park and Beyond
      The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is thrilled to support MOMENTUM, a series of free and paid citywide events that lifts up Greater Boston’s Creative Economy over five days. Through partnership and collaboration, MOMENTUM celebrates unapologietic dopeness, creativity, and joy across culture, arts, entertainment, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

      Saturday, August 22| 12pm-6pm | Jamaica Plain
      The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is proud to support Jamaica Plain Porchfest, a community-run festival with an expansive understanding and appreciation of the arts. Each year, the festival offers a wide array of performances that include music, storytelling, dance, and more.
