We’re pleased to introduce the newest members of our team! Mary Hickie, New Project Manager, and Brittany Dunn, Youth Programs Coordinator, have recently joined the staff. Welcome to the team, Mary and Brittany!
New Project Manager Mary Hickie has been involved with the Conservancy for over two years as a volunteer. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Mary moved to the US in the early 1980s. While spending the last 25 years working for an architectural firm based in Somerville, Mary became familiar with the Emerald Necklace parks. Biking from home to her office everyday, she was amazed that, “in a city the size of Boston, residents have the ability to cover a great deal of the city by foot or bike via park land.”
Mary’s love of the parks and experience as an architect came together when she responded to a volunteer ad in the JP Gazette two years ago. With her experience as a volunteer, Mary comes to the new position well acquainted with Conservancy programs and projects. She is working on the Kelleher Rose Garden fountain project as well as designing the new garden shed, set for construction in fall 2012. Mary is looking forward to working on new park projects, collaborating with the park overseers and their work committees and fulfilling her new role within the Conservancy staff.
Brittany Dunn, our new Youth Programs Coordinator, brings programming experience, her love for the environment and enthusiasm for working with the youth to the Emerald Necklace team. As a resident of Jamaica Plain, she frequently enjoys the Emerald Necklace parks and all that they have to offer and after hearing about the recent job opening, she applied right away.
Having previously worked as an educational program coordinator in a non-profit, Brittany has a lot to offer to the Conservancy. She has worked with high school programs in addition to leading summer work teams and youth recruitment. She believes that it is important to engage the youth with the environment in which we live. “We always have something to learn from them (the youth),” she explains. Already loving her work with the YLP and Green Team, Brittany is excited to see what the summer will bring!
