Send us your poetry, stories and drawings about the parks, wildlife and outdoor activities you like the best.  We’ll post as many of them as we can on our website and in our newsletter for everyone to enjoy!

You can send us your creations by email  or mail them to:  Emerald Necklace Conservancy, Two Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445.  Maybe your ideas or artwork will inspire someone else to help keep our parks beautiful too.

Here are some other fun ideas we think you might like to try:

Make a leaf rubbing

Use any type of thin paper (not construction paper) and a pencil or crayon to make rubbings of different tree leaves you find on the ground in the Emerald Necklace.  ***NOTE: Never touch anything that has not been identified by an adult and be sure you know what poison ivy and poison oak looks like before you start touching leaves.  And never pull any leaves off trees or bushes.***  Put the leaf under the paper and gently draw back and forth across the leaf.  The image of the leaf will be left on the paper.  You could start a scrapbook of leaves from all the Emerald Necklace parks and then take your book to the library and use reference books to identify the different trees you found.

Take a sock hike with your family and friends

Put old socks on over your shoes.  After your hike, stop and look at the things stuck to your socks.  Where did those items come from?  Did you see them on your hike?  Why did they stick to your socks?

Make a Peanut Butter Bird Feeder

Find a large pinecone outside and bring it home.  Have your parents help you spread peanut butter on the outside and then role it in a pile of birdseed.  Hand the feeder with string on a tree in your backyard and watch the birds enjoy their treat!
