Tuesday, July 6th - This was the first day of work at the Emerald Necklace Conservancy. We met at Daisy Field in Olmsted Park. We got two Emerald Necklace Green Team shirts for everyone in the group. We played games, got to know each other, and we also learned about different invasive species. We went through the names of all the tools, the way we have to use them and the safety when you are using the tools. After we went over invasive species we had to go out in the woods to find all the invasive species by the differences of the leaves, how to remove them, and what tools are used. We also did a few name games to learn everybody’s names so that way we could get to know each other a little bit better and feel comfortable working together. We spent some time getting to know our Leaders and talked a little bit more with them. The leaders introduced themselves and told us what we was going to do over the summer and how we go from one park to another.

Wednesday, July 7th - Today, we went over to Mother’s Rest in the Back Bay Fens where we watered the plants that we planted over the spring. We also did some weeding around the plants. We had to water the plants over and over again because the plants were dying because it hadn't rained. After that we swept the stairs next to our plants and we also raked some leaves. We picked up a few sticks and some rocks around our plants because the soil was a little bit rocky and the plants weren’t getting enough water. We also did a lot of weeding around the stairs. It is important for the new plants to get water at least every two days.

Thursday, July 8th - Today we were cleaning up the stairs on Perkins Street next to Jamaica Pond. First we started weeding the stairs then we made a little swale next to the stairs so in case it starts raining the water will just run down instead of running on the stairs. After we cleaned up the stairs and finished weeding, we laid down the mulch so it can help hold the dirt better. Then after we was done with the stairs we went into the woods and pulled Bittersweet and weeds, and we also lopped some Bitterweet.

Friday, July 9th - We took a tour around the Arboretum Nursery and looked at all types of trees and plants. There was trees that were big, old, small, and probably new. When we went inside the Nursery, this guy who worked there told us how plants grow in different temperatures. After that we had did a scavenger hunt and we also had to find 10 interesting things in the Arboretum. During the scavenger hunt we took pictures of us standing next to the trees we found interesting. Then it was time for us to leave for lunch, so we went to this pizza place down the street called the Real Deal. We ate until we couldn’t eat anymore.
After lunch, we headed back to the office where a lady from Citizens Bank was going to give a class about banking. The purpose of this class was to teach us about debit and how to manage our money. However, we had so many questions about credit cards and checks that we spent the whole class talking about good credit and bad credit. 450 is a low score, 800 is a high score, and 620 is the minimum of good credit. At the end of the day we left with enough knowledge of plants, trees, and good banking.
