Crew 2 - Olmsted Park/Jamaica Pond - Week 3

The third week of our summer job at the Emerald Necklace we already knew all the names for the tools and plants we needed to work with. Most of the time we work around Daisy Field in the woods pulling Bittersweet and cutting Knotweed to make the place look better and to keep the good plants alive. The good thing about working with the Emerald Necklace is that people are very thank full for our help in the park and for keeping it clean and nice. Our leaders Val and Franklin are very good leaders because they help us in anything we need. We always work in groups and help each other because sometimes some of us can’t do the work by ourselves. We also get to make friends inside and outside the crew.

Tuesday, July 20th - Tuesday from the third week, we worked at the Boathouse cleaning the benches and shrub beds. While we cleaned around the benches and mulched the shrub beds, people came to us and thank us for helping to keep the area clean. A lot of people like to jog around there and like to sit on the benches and look around. If the area is not clean, nobody is going to like it and nobody will like to go there. Thanks to the Emerald Necklace and our work, the Boathouse is clean. Me and the other workers always have fun working together. We always joke and it is good because you end up making good friends and I think that’s what this is about, making friends and helping the community.
